Our
group, Dawlish Transition Ambition, aim to reduce our dependency on
oil by promoting and encouraging a change in life styles to make this
a reality. We seek to bring together everyone in the community who
share this ambition.
Last
year, we held the first renewable energy exhibition in Dawlish.
This
year, we have launched ‘Delicious Dawlish’ a food growing
initiative, to be celebrated in feast on
22nd
September 2012 at The Strand
Centre, URC. We have held a Gardener’s Question time with a seed
swap and two seedling swap and sales in The Strand, Dawlish, on
Saturdays, at the end of May and June.
We
have started a Community Garden agreement with Westcliff School and
we hope to set up more Community gardens and Orchards in different
areas of Dawlish.
We
would like Dawlish to have a Garden share scheme as the allotment
waiting list is so long but we need more volunteer garden
owners to come forward to set this up.
We
have received a grant from the Dawlish Town Council Regeneration Fund
to fund the hosting of a Sustainable Travel & Tourism Forum for
all interested parties in the community. The aim to
enable Dawlish to take advantage of the Exe Estuary Cycle Trail and
ensure that the last section of the route comes into the centre of
Dawlish and is a
safe route into the centre of Dawlish. This should be an alternative
and interesting route as opposed to the current 300m section of
inhospitable highway into the centre of the town that cyclists must
negotiate at present. We believe the cycle route will bring economic
benefits to the town centre, promote sustainable tourism and a
healthy lifestyle for both local residents and tourists.
We
have worked in partnership to ensure that the Dawlish Shopping Bag
becomes a reality, following the successful launch of the Dawlish Bag
Campaign by Teignbridge Recycling Officer, Ben Bryant, with
assistance from TRAIL, and sponsors. Further sponsorship is being
sought.
We
are looking at seeking permission and funding to plant trees
for Community orchards, Town Centre infilling of trees lost to
disease and to seek to replace a fraction of those due
to be lost to development of 250+ houses in the Secmaton Lane area
over the next five years, with the help of the local Community.
To set up an Eco-tourism network of
Dawlish Accommodation providers with environmentally friendly
credentials.
To continue to contribute to the
Dawlish Parish Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group
